Tips and Tricks:
Rule 1. When in doubt, use Quicktime Pro.
The great "audio sync" issue. If you are converting an .avi or .mpeg2(vob) file to .mp4 to use on your IPOD, IPHONE or AppleTV and you get an audio sync issue, try another converter. I've had a few .avi files that I have converted with the late-great visual hub that had audio sync issues. My solution, use Quicktime Pro to convert. The latest quicktime has presets for Iphone and Apple TV. Quicktime generally takes a bit longer than VH or other tools, but each time I use in on the same .avi file the new files had perfect sync.

Ripping is the process of getting video or audio off of a CD or DVD.

If you buy one video tool, buy this! This is a GREAT tool. No longer supported or available but the developer says it should work, even with Snow Leopard.
Switch-Audio Conversion tool Great for converting MP3s to AIFF for Final Cut projects. Also converts WMA files to AIFF. Thus, students can use cheap audio recorders and convert files to AIFF and send them to folder of your choice. Mac OS X and Windows versions available.
